Kendradhipati dosha — the blemish of benefics owning angles

Every rule you've met so far punishes planets for ruling bad houses. This one punishes them for being good.

Kendradhipati dosha — the blemish (dosha) of angle lordship (kendradhipati) — says that when a natural benefic rules a kendra, an angle, it loses the very beneficence that made it a benefic. The angles tax gentleness itself.

It's the strangest rule in Parashara's system, and Lesson 4.2 gave you only its headline. This lesson explains why thrones do this to gentle planets — and exactly how hard each one falls.

By the end: Grade the kendradhipati dosha for any lagna: name which benefic carries it, how severely — full functional malefic for double angle lordship, dimmed for a single angle — and what softens or overrides it.

Grading the blemish

Goodness taxed, harshness forgiven

Parashara's oddest ruling: natural benefics ruling kendras — houses 4, 7 and 10 — lose their beneficence. Natural malefics ruling them lose their maleficence. You met this as rule 3, the leveler. Now we open it up: why it happens, and who pays most.

Gemini lagna: Jupiter rules the 7th and 10th — blemished.

Thrones demand executives

Kendras are the chart's power seats. A gentle planet holding a throne has its gifts turned into obligations — sweetness conscripted into administration. A harsh planet holding one has its edge drafted into duty. Power neutralizes temperament, in both directions.

A poet made prime minister writes fewer poems. A general made prime minister starts fewer wars.

Jupiter and Mercury pay full price

The classics grade the dosha strongest for Jupiter and Mercury, milder for the Moon and Venus. The reason is structural: only the dual-sign benefics can own two angles at once, and double angle lordship tips them all the way to functional malefic. A single angle merely dims.

Virgo lagna: Jupiter owns the 4th and 7th — malefic. Aries lagna: the Moon owns only the 4th — dimmed, not damned.

Protection withheld, not evil unleashed

The dosha does not turn a benefic cruel. It withholds the automatic help you'd expect from it. A blemished Jupiter's periods underdeliver his promises — expansion arrives late, blessings come with invoices. You lose a guardian; you don't gain an enemy.

Malefics get promoted

The same leveling lifts the harsh planets. Saturn, Mars or the Sun ruling a kendra lose their bite — a functional upgrade, the flip side of the blemish. For Taurus, Saturn's 10th lordship is part of what makes him yogakaraka-grade.

Taurus lagna: Saturn rules the 9th and 10th — the chart's MVP.

When the blemish matures

Strongest when the benefic owns only kendras and sits in one — pure angle lordship with nothing to redeem it. Softened when the planet also owns a trikona, a trine — then rule 5 outranks rule 3 and the yogakaraka path opens — or when it stands strong in dignity.

The one idea to keep

Check which chairs it owns

Angles tax sweetness and discipline bitterness. Never assume a benefic helps until you've checked which chairs it owns.

Lab

Set the lagna to Gemini, then Virgo, then Sagittarius, then Pisces, and watch pure angle lordship drag Jupiter and Mercury — the two sweetest planets in the sky — into the malefic column, one mutable sign at a time.

Cancer lagna → yogakaraka: Mars

  • Sun2nd (neutral)Mixed
  • Moon1st (lagna)Benefic
  • Mars5th (trikona) + 10th (kendra)Yogakaraka
  • Mercury3rd (trishadaya) + 12th (neutral)Malefic
  • Jupiter6th (trishadaya) + 9th (trikona)Mixed
  • Venus4th (kendra) + 11th (trishadaya)Malefic
  • Saturn7th (kendra) + 8th (dusthana)Mixed

Practice

Gemini lagna. What is Jupiter's functional verdict?

Work it out

You saw this in the lab — set Gemini rising and read Jupiter's card. Which two houses does he own?

Aries lagna. The Moon rules only the 4th house. Her verdict?

Work it out

One angle, no second sign — how far does a single kendra push a benefic?

Taurus lagna. Saturn rules the 9th and 10th. Does his 10th-house angle lordship hurt him?

Work it out

The rule is directional. What do angles do to harsh planets — and what does Saturn's other seat add?

Which grading of the kendradhipati dosha matches the classical texts?

Work it out

Which benefics are even capable of owning two angles at once?

6 cards added to your recall deck. First review: tomorrow.

The gate

Grade angle lordship in five fresh scenarios: verdicts, severity, and what cancels the blemish.
