06The mother, and which house she belongs to
Most practice reads the mother from the fourth house, and the Moon is matru karaka in every school, so this seat looks like a double signification. A significant classical line, however, assigns the mother to the tenth house and the father to the fourth, on the argument that the tenth is the bhava of the parent who is publicly answerable and the karaka should not be read in the same house it signifies. Practitioners who follow it get a materially different chart for the same birth, and the disagreement has never been resolved.
