Planetary Transits (Gochara) — how the moving sky touches your chart

A transit (gochara) is today's sky read against your birth chart — where each planet stands now, compared with where everything stood when you were born. Slow movers set the seasons of a life, fast movers colour its days, and none of them can deliver anything your kundli didn't already promise.

01What a transit is

Your birth chart is a frozen frame; the sky kept moving. Gochara reads the current positions of the planets against that frame — traditionally counted from your Moon sign (chandra lagna), the seat of the mind. Sade Sati, the most famous transit of all, is simply Saturn walking the three signs around your Moon.

The transit pulls the trigger — the birth chart loaded the gun.

03Where slow transits show up

♄︎
Career
Saturn crossing your 10th, or over your 10th lord, brings the long grind — rank earned in these years tends to hold.
☽︎
Mind
Saturn or the nodes near your natal Moon press on sleep and mood — Sade Sati is this, by name.
♃︎
Money
Jupiter transiting the 2nd or 11th from the Moon marks the classical earning windows — if the chart promises income at all.

04The one rule that saves you

A transit can only deliver what the natal chart promises. Jupiter over your 11th brings gains if the kundli grants gains; the same transit passes quietly over a chart that doesn't. Gochara triggers — the kundli decides.

Frequently asked

Are transits read from the lagna or the Moon?+
Classical gochara — including Sade Sati and Jupiter's wealth transits — is counted from the Moon sign. Many astrologers also read from the lagna for concrete, external events. Sound practice uses both, giving the Moon first weight in matters of mind and mood.
Why didn't a "bad transit" do anything to me?+
Because your chart never signed that contract. A transit is a trigger, not a source — if the natal promise is absent, there is nothing to fire. A strong natal Saturn also blunts Saturn's transits considerably. This is why fear-based transit predictions age so badly.
Which transits matter most?+
The slow ones: Saturn, Jupiter, and Rahu–Ketu. They stay long enough to build or dismantle something real. Fast-mover transits are background colour — worth noting on the day you sign something, not worth losing sleep over.
How is this different from dasha?+
The dasha decides which of your chart's promises is currently active; the transit decides when it fires. When dasha and gochara point the same way, events land. Astrologers read them together — never one without the other.
