01Overview
02The house that faces outward
The seventh is where the chart meets people who are not you — a spouse, a business partner, a client, a counterparty to a contract. Because it sits opposite the lagna, everything in it is measured against your own identity whether or not the conversation is framed that way. A graha of release standing in that doorway produces a placement about how much is wanted, not about who arrives.
03Four things this placement describes
04The axis is where this placement makes sense
Rahu sits in the first, so the pair reads as one direction of travel: partnership is the department that already feels handled, and the unfinished, hungry work is the question of who you are becoming. This is why so many readings of a seventh-house node miss — they treat the placement as a statement about marriage when the live end of the axis is the lagna. The honest version is simply that the seventh's subject pulls less, and that is a description of appetite rather than a forecast about a marriage.
05The same node, two seventh houses
| Reads as unpossessive | Reads as absent | |
|---|---|---|
| Ketu's dispositor | Strong, and well placed in the chart | Weak, combust, or in a dusthana |
| The 7th lord | Sound, and holding the house together | Afflicted, or hidden in the 6th, 8th or 12th |
| Venus | In good condition, with benefic contact | Weak, or hemmed between malefics |
| The navamsa | The promise holds up in the D9 | The D9 thins what the D1 suggested |
| How it is experienced | Room to breathe inside a close bond | Distance the other person has to name first |
06Occupied house, or opposite house
Because the nodes are one axis with two ends, practitioners disagree about which end actually produces the result. A long-standing position holds that Ketu delivers in the house it occupies, as any graha would; a competing position, argued from the fact that the axis is a single geometric entity, holds that the node's real output shows up at the far end and that a seventh-house Ketu is best read through the first. Nobody has resolved that, and the practical consequence is that a careful reading looks at both houses before it says anything at all.
