01Overview
02What the second house is counting
The second is the house of what a life keeps rather than what it earns: savings, the family group, food, the voice and the face that carries it. It is a house built around retention, so a graha whose entire method is letting go sits in it as an odd fit at first glance. That oddness is exactly what the classical descriptions are trying to name.
03Four things this placement is known for
04The axis, and what is actually being said
Rahu stands opposite in the eighth, so the pair describes one direction of travel: the second already holds enough, and the unfinished business lies in what is shared, inherited or kept out of sight. The honest reading of this placement is low interest rather than low means — the accumulation project simply does not grip. Wealth itself is read from the second lord, the eleventh house and Saturn, and a node replaces none of the three.
05The same node, two second houses
| Reads as economical | Reads as inattentive | |
|---|---|---|
| Ketu's dispositor | Well placed, and giving the node a subject | Weak or afflicted, leaving the house vague |
| The 2nd lord | Sound, and out of the dusthanas | Combust, or set in the 6th, 8th or 12th |
| Saturn's involvement | In contact — retention gets a floor | No contact — nothing anchors what arrives |
| The 11th house | Healthy, so inflow is not the problem | Thin, so there is little arriving to keep |
| Speech | Reads as spare and exact | Reads as withholding before it reads as brief |
06When this part of the chart is audible
Ketu's mahadasha runs seven years, the shortest in the Vimshottari cycle, and its antardashas inside other periods are shorter still. A second-house node is therefore usually experienced as a long-standing temperament rather than as an event, with the periods of the second lord and of the dispositor doing most of the visible work. Between those windows it runs underneath everything without announcing itself.
