01Overview
02What the second house counts
The second house is the house of retention — savings rather than income, the family you were born into, what you eat, and the voice you use. Income belongs to the eleventh, and the two houses answer different questions even though they are constantly merged into one. Saturn in the second is standing in the house of keeping, which happens to be the only thing he is genuinely fast at.
03How the placement usually behaves
04The aspect the warnings never mention
Saturn's 10th aspect from the second house lands squarely on the eleventh — an upachaya, the house of gain, and one of the three houses where Saturn himself is specifically well regarded. So the placement most often read as a tight second house is permanently looking at the house of income, which is exactly why the tradition pairs this position with results that arrive late rather than results that never arrive. The 4th and 8th aspects complete the picture, tying holdings to the domestic base and to money that is pooled.
05Two second houses, one placement
| Holdings that compound | Holdings held too tightly | |
|---|---|---|
| Sign | Libra (exalted), Capricorn or Aquarius (own) | Aries (debilitated) |
| The 2nd lord | Well placed, in a kendra or trikona | Weak, combust, or afflicted |
| The 11th house | Strong — there is inflow to retain | Weak — retention with nothing arriving |
| Jupiter | Aspecting the 2nd — expansion against the caution | No contact — caution with no counterweight |
| How it reads | Modest early, substantial and durable later | Sufficiency that is never felt as sufficient |
06When the second house is live
Second-house subjects surface during Saturn's own nineteen-year period and the periods of the second lord, and they surface as changes in what is held rather than as moods. Slow transits across the second colour a season without deciding it. Outside those windows this placement runs as a background setting.
