01Overview
02The seventh house, and who is standing in it
The seventh house faces outward — marriage, business partners, contracts, trade, and everyone who is not you. It sits directly opposite the first house, so partnership questions arrive as identity questions whether or not they are phrased that way. Rahu here stands in the doorway.
03Four things this placement describes
04What is actually being claimed here
Rahu in the seventh is not on any dosha list — the classical doshas attached to this house concern Mars, and they come with their own definitions and their own cancellations. Some regional practice does treat a node in the seventh as a matching-level concern anyway, and that is a difference of practice rather than settled doctrine. The mechanism that matters is the axis: with Ketu in the first house, what presents as a question about a partner is usually a question about who you become next to one.
05The same placement, two different marriages
| Reads as expansive | Reads as unsteady | |
|---|---|---|
| Venus | Strong and unafflicted | Combust, debilitated, or closely afflicted |
| The 7th lord | Well placed, in a kendra or trikona | Weak, or hidden in the 6th, 8th or 12th |
| Rahu's dispositor | Dignified — the appetite has a direction | Weak — the appetite keeps changing its object |
| Navamsa (D9) | The 7th holds up in the divisional chart | The promise thins in the D9 |
| What it looks like | A partnership nobody predicted, that works | Intensity early, terms renegotiated later |
06When the seventh house is live
Partnership questions surface during Rahu's own periods, the periods of the seventh lord, and Venus periods where marriage specifically is the subject. Slow transits across the seventh colour a season without settling it. Outside those windows this reads as a standing preference rather than an event.
