01Overview
02What the tenth house measures
The tenth house is the top of the chart — career, action, authority, and the standing you hold where people can see it. It is the only house that is both a kendra and an upachaya, meaning it is structurally strong and it also compounds. Rahu here is standing at the most visible point on the wheel.
03What the appetite does at the top of the chart
04Why the usual caution reverses here
The tenth is an upachaya, so results in it are classically read as growing rather than decaying — the opposite of the assumption that a malefic in the career house holds it back. Rahu's ambition here is treated by the tradition as usable material rather than as a fault in the chart. What the placement does not supply is a base, which is why the fourth house on the other end of the axis is read in the same breath.
05The same ambition, two trajectories
| Reads as compounding | Reads as unstable | |
|---|---|---|
| Rahu's dispositor | Strong, in a kendra or trikona | Weak, combust, or afflicted |
| The 10th lord | Dignified and well placed | Weak, or hidden in the 6th, 8th or 12th |
| Saturn | Strong — the rise has structure under it | Weak — position arrives faster than competence |
| The 4th house | Supported — there is a base to return to | Afflicted — the private cost of the rise shows |
| What it looks like | Late, unusual, and durable | Fast climbs and repeated restarts |
06When the career house is live
Career turns, relocations and jumps in visibility cluster in Rahu's own periods and in those of the tenth lord. Saturn's slow transits across the tenth shape the same subjects on a much longer clock. The placement describes the ambition; the dasha decides when it gets spent.
