01Overview
02The department other people can see
Karma bhava is the working half of a life as everyone else encounters it: the occupation, the authority attached to it, and the standing that arrives in a room before you do. It is the highest point of the wheel and the least private house on it, which is why people want a verdict from this house more than from any other. Budha standing there puts skill, speech and calculation where they are on display.
03What this seat is known for
04An angle that also compounds
The tenth is the only house classed as a kendra and an upachaya at the same time, which means it carries an angle's structural weight while its results are expected to accumulate rather than arrive. For Budha that combination is unusually apt, because the tenth is also one of the four angles where Bhadra yoga can form, and a Virgo or Sagittarius ascendant with Mercury in its own or exaltation sign here holds it outright. The practical consequence is that this seat is strong on paper from birth and takes two or three decades to show what the strength was for.
05Two working lives under one placement
| Reads as authority | Reads as unsettled | |
|---|---|---|
| The 10th sign | Virgo (exalted and own) or Gemini (own) | Pisces (debilitated) — a Gemini lagna |
| The conjunction | Saturn attached — the work sticks to one line | Nothing anchoring it, and the field changes again |
| Distance from the Sun | Clear — the work gets credited to a person | Tight combustion, and the output is credited elsewhere |
| Time elapsed | Read at forty-five, with the record visible | Read at twenty-six, mid-accumulation |
| The 10th lord | Well placed, carrying the house's business | Weak or hidden, whatever the occupant is doing |
06Which technique names a profession
Parashari practice reads occupation from the tenth house, its lord, and the grahas influencing both, with the dashamsha division consulted for detail. Jaimini practice runs a parallel scheme in which the amatyakaraka — the graha holding the second-highest degree in the chart, whoever that turns out to be — carries the career signification, and it frequently names a different graha than the tenth lord does. Both systems are taught as complete, they are routinely mixed without disclosure, and a career reading that quietly switches between them is producing an answer nobody can trace.
